| 123 | The Nemzoff family (it was spelled Nemzow in Ukraine, but pronounced and therefore spelled as Nemzoff in America) was from a town pronounced Kralyevitz (actual spelling unkown) that was in the province of "Chenigeve", which is probably Chernigov, in the Ukraine, approximately 60 miles or so from Kiev. It was reportedly burned to the ground during WW2 so no longer exists. However, there are numerous towns in that area, in that province, that are spelled Krasnosil's'ke, Krasnoyil's'k, Kraslyani, Kraskivs'ke, Krasilivka, and Krasilivka. All of those have a little similarity to the pronunciation of Kralyevitz. As of 8/6/03, have been unable to find Kralyevitz on any previous WW2 maps. According to ship manifest from Zelda and children's arrival, it says they were from Krabnitz. But they boarded the ship in England, so probably the person taking their information did not understand their language and guessed at the spelling of their town name. Never did find Samual Nemzow's arrival to the US. According to Herbert, his Hebrew and/or yiddish name was Chaim Shmaryohu, or Chaim Shmeryl. The following is where I am now on William Colley's marriages: "2.0 Marriage(s) Was William Colley married more then once? I have no evidence that he was married more then once. He was certainly married to Mary for many - many years. However, since earlier researches have suggested that Jane Davis and Nancy Thompson as possible wives they are included in this discussion. (Similar names in the same area may have confused early researchers or maybe he did have more then one wife.) 2.1 Mary Mary (Surname unknown) was married to William Colley. When they were married is unknown. Mary was born in South Carolina in 1778 and died 11 April 1854. She is buried next to William Colley in a Cemetery near Leary in Calhoun Co., Georgia. Their tombstone lists them as husband and wife and gives their dates of birth and dates of death. Mary was married to William Colley before 1820 and was with him until her death. The 1820, 1830 and 1840 censuses list a female that I believe is Mary. Mary is specified by name in the 1850 census. William and Mary lived in Wilkinson County Georgia for a number of years. The family then moved to a part of Baker Co. (was Early County) that became part of Calhoun Co., Georgia. This is where William obtained large tracks of land from which he created his Plantations. 2.2 Nancy (Thompson) Cauley and Jane (Davis) Cauley I do not believe Nancy Thompson was a wife of the William Colley of this story. However, more information is needed to say for sure that this is true. Records show that Nancy Thompson was the wife of a William Cawley. The Freeman family has said that Nancy (Thompson) and William Cauley were the parents of Elizabeth Jane Cauley who married John Freeman. William Colley of this story did have a daughter named Elizabeth Colley who married Sparkman Bowen. Elizabeth Jane (Cauley) Freeman and Elizabeth (Colley) Bowen were both having children about the same time. Elizabeth (Colley) Bowen and her children are listed in William Colley?s Will. Elizabeth Jane (Cauley) Freeman and her children were not in William Colley?s Will. The Will was very carefully drawn and withstood strong legal challenges. Old researchers seem to have mixed two families. Elizabeth Jane (Cauley) Freeman was the daughter of Nancy (Thompson) and William Cauley/Cawley. Elizabeth (Colley) Bowen is the daughter of William Colley. The surnames Cauley, Cawley and Colley have been used in various documents for the same families and individuals. Some descendants of William Colley today use the surname spelled Cauley. Jane Davis was the wife of a William B. Cauley/Cawley who I believe was the son of Nancy (Thompson) and William Cauley/Cawley. | 125 | Thomas (Octavia) Peter Rizzo Highland - Thomas (Octavia) Peter Rizzo 95, a lifelong resident of Highland passed away at his home on December 2, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Rizzo was a Superintendant for the Town of Lloyd Water & Sewer Departments. He initiated all the projects and the infrastructure that provides the town of its water which is still in place today , and because of his accomplishments and dedication they named a road after him called Thomas Rizzo Blvd. in Highland. He was a true American icon- a perfect family man. Mr. Rizzo was a decorated WWII Army Veteran. He was honorably discharged and served our Country between the years of 1942-1945. He was an Army Champion Boxer. He was awarded from the Secretary of the Army The Army Commendation Medal for saving a tug boat caught in the worst storm in the pacific in 40 years. Yes he was in the Army on a tug boat as a radio man- he said the waves were 30 ft. over the bow for 3 days. He received this Commendation Medal for his courageous performance of duty on December 9, 1943, while assigned as radio operator on the tug LT-20. Though you had been suffering from seasickness for two days, you remained at your post for six hours during the rescue operation, notwithstanding the fact you required the assistance of two men to maintain your position. Your conduct reflects great credit upon yourself, the 35th Transportation Corps Composite Group, and the Army of the United States. Mr. Rizzo was a Commander for the American Legion Post 193 for 13 years. He was also a member of the VFW post 6534, was a life member of the Highland Hose Company#1 in Highland, and was a member of the Italian Center in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Rizzo was an avid bowler and hunter. He loved camping and his cookies. He was also an avid card player and skibo player. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Esopus and St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland. Mr. Rizzo was born in Highland NY. He was the son of Guiseppe and Maria Belvedere Rizzo. On December 1, 1946 at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland he married Eleanor Casabura. Mrs. Rizzo survives at home in Highland. Additional survivors include his children; Tommy Rizzo, Donna Rizzo, and Riva Vanas-Nelson. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Rizzo was predeceased by his brothers; Gus, Leo , Peppy, his sisters; Mary Grasso, Josephine LaSusa, Anne DallVechia, Rosalie Bragg, his daughter-in-law, Candy Rizzo and his grandson; Shane Iorlano. Calling hours are Friday December 5th from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 38 Main St. Highland, NY 12528. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 6th 10:00am at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Esopus.
