Edward H. Warner
(August 1, 1922 - February 6, 2010)
U.S. Veteran Edward H. Warner, 87 years of age, formerly of Amherst, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Hearthstone At Lorain following a short illness.
He was born August 1, 1922, in Lorain where he was raised and graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1942. Edward had made his home in Amherst since 1970 prior to moving to Hearthstone At Lorain three years ago.
Edward served with the United States Navy during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as an Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class, Company 79. He was employed with the former National Tube in Lorain before serving in the military. After returning home, he continued working at the then United States Steel in the Rolling Mills for forty-three years, retiring in 1982, as a tool and die maker. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and softball. When his boys were younger, he also enjoyed coaching little league baseball.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years Virginia C. Warner (nee: Henencheck); his sons Darryl E. Warner of Dublin, Ohio, Robert E. Warner of Santa Barbara, California, and James T. Warner of Elyria; his daughter Cynthia Warner of Westlake; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and his caregiver and good friend Elaine Hall of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Anna Warner (nee: Mahowisz); and by twelve brothers and sisters.
Friends may call Tuesday, February 9, 2010, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Dr. in Amherst. Military honors will be performed by a Funeral Detail from the United States Navy and the Lorain Disabled American Veterans. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. M.G. Salka, the staff at New Life Hospice, and the fourth floor nursing staff at Community Health Partners in Lorain for all their kindness, compassion, and care during this difficult time.
